Spay/Neuter Assistance Program

INTERESTED IN OUR SPAY/NEUTER VOUCHER PROGRAM?

For nearly 15 years, Greenbrier Humane Society has proudly administered a spay/neuter voucher

program that has changed the lives of countless pets and families throughout our region.

Thanks to the extraordinary support of a private foundation, almost $1.5 million has been invested in

spay and neuter surgeries through our local veterinary clinics—preventing unwanted litters and

reducing shelter intake. This program remains one of the most impactful services we provide, and the

need in our community is greater than ever.

In May 2025, we were notified that grant funding for this program would be cut in half. At that time, we

began limiting the number of vouchers available to each clinic per month in hopes of preserving access

for families in need. Unfortunately, that change alone has not been enough.

To responsibly stretch available dollars through the remainder of the grant year—ending May 31,

2026—GHS will be pausing issuance of new vouchers from January through March.

Why the pause?

This temporary pause ensures that:

• Funds are not exhausted prematurely

• Families needing assistance later in the year can still receive support

• We honor the intent and stewardship expectations of our grant partner

What this means for pet owners:

• Voucher issued through December 2025 will be honored as scheduled through participating clinics

• New voucher requests will resume in April 2026

• During the pause, families are encouraged to reach out to their veterinarian about costs, discounted

clinic days, or payment options

• GHS will continue seeking additional funding sources to meet the growing demand

You can also donate cat food or dog food

all vouchers must be picked up before the spay/ neuter appointment date.

We know this pause may create challenges, and we appreciate your patience and understanding. Thank

you for believing in our mission and supporting this vital community service.

Please note that each clinic is only allotted 10 of vouchers per month, and we can only issue 2 per household per month. Vouchers are first come, first serve.

Simply get an appointment date for your pets spay/neuter surgery and then give us a call or come see us! If you would like to check with us to see what we currently have available, please call our facility at (304) 645-4775.

We do not require a maximum or minimum donation amount. The amount you choose to donate is completely up to you. Please be sure to bring your donation with you when you come to the facility to pick up your voucher, as we require donations to be made at the time the voucher is issued.

Donation-based vouchers

Donation based vouchers can only be issued when we have spay/neuter vouchers available with the veterinarians participating in our program. All of the veterinarians that participate in our spay/neuter clinics are allotted 15 vouchers per month. Due to this, there is a limited quantity of donation-based vouchers that we can offer to the community. Once all clinics are filled for the month, we are unable to issue any additional donation-based vouchers.

Yes, we require that your donation is collected at the time you receive your voucher.

Unfortunately, no we cannot mail vouchers. You must come in person. We require this because we must collect donations when issuing the voucher.

Absolutely! We understand life can get crazy and you may need a friend/family member to retrieve your voucher for you. Just send your donation with them!

Unfortunately, no.  All animals must be socialized family pets.  We could potentially lose our grant funding if we issue a voucher for a feral/wild animal.

Pregnant animals can be spayed as long as the owner is comfortable with it. Please consult with the vet you make the appointment with to understand their requirements. Please also be sure to let us know that the animal is pregnant when the voucher is being made.

You must wait until she is finished nursing before having her spayed.  If she is spayed too soon, she may stop producing milk for her offspring.

All animals must be AT LEAST four (4) months old before they can be spayed/neutered.  Please wait until your pet is at least 4 months old before applying for a voucher.

We allow two (2) vouchers per household per month!

Give us a call at (304) 645-4775.  We will be happy to answer any questions you may have!
