What is Rescue?
“Rescue” is a term used to define organizations that are dedicated to the rescue of animals from animal shelters around the globe.
How does Rescue work?
Most Rescue groups are a core group of “staff” that routinely identify and “pull” animals from Animal Shelters. Upon ‘pulling’ the animal, they place them into pre-approved foster-homes in their area where they reside until adoption. During this time, animals are provided with necessary medical care and they are able to enjoy a home environment during their wait.
Rescue groups have their own criteria for pulling an animal since they know what animals are most desired in their geographic area. They have their own adoption requirements and adoption fees. Many are able to provide home checks, veterinary checks and in many cases background checks for potential adopters.
Rescues are often able to take animals with significant medical concerns that would otherwise be difficult for a shelter organization to manage.
Why Rescue?
Because there are not enough homes locally to adopt the annual number of animals surrendered to our facility, Greenbrier Humane Society (GHS) partners with approved 501c3 Rescue organizations to “pull” animals and assume ownership of their care. These Rescue partnerships allow GHS to continue our lifesaving mission!
